A hardy perennial herb producing flat green leaves with a mild garlic flavour and decorative white flowers.

 

Known botanically as Allium tuberosum Garlic Chive this organically grown strain is valued for its culinary versatility and ornamental appeal.

Sow March to May directly outdoors in prepared beds or in pots. Germination 14 to 21 days at 15 to 20°C. Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun or partial shade. Height 30 to 40 cm with upright stems and white star shaped flowers. Harvesting May to October for leaves and flowers.

 

Sowing instructions

Prepare a fine seed bed in sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly in drills 1 cm deep and 25 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 15 cm spacing once established. Water well after sowing and keep soil evenly moist during dry spells. Garlic Chive is suitable for containers raised beds and borders.

 

Grow and maintenance

Grow in fertile soil with regular watering during dry periods. Garlic Chive thrives in sunny or lightly shaded sites and is hardy in most conditions. Harvest leaves frequently to prolong growth and cut flower stems for culinary use or decoration.
