Phaseolus vulgaris is a popular variety known for its high yields of tender, crisp, stringless pods that are ideal for both fresh consumption and freezing.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds directly outdoors from April to June, once the soil has warmed up and the risk of frost has passed. Plant seeds 5 cm deep, spaced 15 cm apart, and place supports such as poles or a trellis at the time of planting. Beans will climb the supports as they grow. Water regularly and keep the soil moist to encourage germination, which usually occurs within 7-14 days.

For optimal growth, beans prefer a sunny location with well-drained, fertile soil. Once the plants are established, they will produce a prolific harvest of long, straight pods that are perfect for eating fresh or preserving. Harvest beans when they are young and tender for the best flavour.

French Bean Climbing Blue Lake is an excellent choice for gardeners looking for a productive, easy-to-grow variety that offers a high yield of delicious beans throughout the summer. This climbing bean is ideal for small gardens, allotments, and containers, and it is sure to be a favourite for fresh salads, stir-fries, or simply steamed as a side dish.
