Foxglove Purple Seed

A timeless and elegant biennial with tall spires of tubular, bell shaped flowers in rich purple tones, each bloom delicately speckled within.

 

It forms leafy rosettes in its first year, followed by dramatic flowering stems in its second. Its bold colour and graceful form make it ideal for cottage gardens, wildlife borders, and cut flower arrangements.

 

This shade tolerant biennial thrives in partial sun and rich, well drained soil and is perfect for low maintenance planting, pollinator habitats, and naturalistic schemes.

 

It attracts bees and bumblebees and self seeds gently for future displays.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly where plants are to flower or in trays/modules for transplanting. Press lightly onto the surface of moist compost without covering, as light aids germination. Keep at 18 to 21°C until seedlings appear. Transplant when large enough to handle and space 30 to 40 cm apart. For best results, sow in spring or early summer for flowering the following year.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells and avoid overfeeding. Deadhead to prolong flowering or allow to self-seed for informal planting. Suitable for borders, wildlife gardens, and cutting. Cut back after flowering or leave seed heads for architectural interest. Caution: all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested.
