A charming and traditional mixture of Dianthus barbatus producing clusters of single open faced blooms in shades of red pink white and bicolours.

 

Sweet William Single Mixed brings a classic cottage garden feel with its bright colours spicy clove scent and long lasting flowers that attract bees butterflies and early summer pollinators.

 

Plants form neat upright clumps with strong stems ideal for cutting. The single flower form gives a natural meadow like look and provides excellent nectar access for pollinators.

 

Flowering begins in late spring and continues into midsummer adding reliable colour to borders containers and cut flower beds.

 

This hardy biennial is often grown as an annual and thrives in full sun and well drained fertile soil. Once established it is easy to maintain and offers excellent cold tolerance.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with a fine layer of soil. Maintain a temperature of 15 to 20°C in a propagator or covered tray. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out in late summer spacing 25 to 35 cm apart. For outdoor sowing scatter thinly in a prepared seedbed and transplant to final positions in autumn.

 

Grow and Maintenance

Water regularly during dry spells and feed occasionally to support strong flowering. Remove spent blooms to tidy plants or allow some to set seed for natural self sowing. Sweet William thrives in sunny positions and is ideal for borders cottage gardens and cutting beds.
