Description
Fennel Herb Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
Foeniculum vulgare is a versatile and aromatic herb that adds a unique, slightly sweet flavour to a variety of dishes.
The name Foeniculum comes from the Latin word for "hay," which reflects the herb's characteristic scent. Fennel is highly valued for its seeds, fronds, and bulb, which are used in cooking, baking, and traditional medicine.
The feathery leaves and bright yellow flowers are also attractive additions to the garden, offering both culinary and ornamental
This hardy and easy-to-grow herb thrives in sunny positions with well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Fennel grows to a height of 1.5 - 2 meters, making it a perfect addition to herb gardens, mixed borders, or containers.
The aromatic leaves attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, while the seeds offer a sweet, anise-like flavour for a wide range of culinary uses, from soups and stews to desserts and pastries.

This herb is especially valued for its seeds, which add a mild anise flavour to various dishes and beverages.
Sowing Instructions
Indoors: Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost from March to April. Lightly cover the seeds with compost and keep at 18-21°C. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle, and harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost.
Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared, weed-free soil from April to May. Lightly cover the seeds with soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to the recommended spacing for healthy growth.
Fennel Herb is a wonderful addition to herb gardens, kitchen gardens, or containers. Its aromatic leaves, feathery fronds, and bright yellow flowers offer an attractive and functional touch to any garden. The seeds and fresh fronds are ideal for adding a sweet anise flavour to a wide variety of dishes.
