Fennel Herb Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
 
This tall perennial herb has green feathery foliage that has a sweet aniseed flavour.
 
The large attractive umbrels of yellow flowers during summer are followed by edible seed.
 
All parts of this herb can be harvested collect the seed from late summer to dry and store in an airtight container.
 
Plant amongst flowers in a mixed border as it makes an attractive border plant mixed in between flowers.
 
The seed can be used to make a tea that may help ease digestive problems and coughs.

All soil types that are acidic, alkaline or 
Harvest May - November 
Fennel does not make a good companion plant in the vegetable garden so it is best planted on its own or in the flower border 
Pick the leaves and stems as required and harvest the ripe seed once they have turned brown
A good source of vitamin C 
Use in salads, stuffings, dressings, fish dishes and teas
 
Sow thinly between March - May indoors onto a seed tray of moist compost.
When the seedlings are large enough pot into individual pots to grow on.
Gradually accustom the plants to outside before planting into their final position after the final frosts.
 
Alternativly Sow outside between April - July where they are to grow 1.5cm deep into finely raked well drained soil that has already been watered.
Thin the seedling to 60cm apart and keep well watered until the plants are established
