Evening Primrose forms upright leafy plants with a relaxed habit, flowering from midsummer into early autumn. Its twilight opening blooms attract night-flying pollinators and add a magical presence to borders, meadows, and wildlife gardens.

 

This drought tolerant biennial or short-lived perennial thrives in full sun and well drained soil and is perfect for low-maintenance planting, pollinator habitats, and naturalistic schemes. It self seeds readily and naturalises beautifully in open ground.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds on the surface of moist compost and press lightly without covering, as light aids germination. Keep at 18 to 22°C until seedlings appear. Transplant into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant outdoors after the last frost. Space plants 30 to 40 cm apart. For naturalistic displays, allow plants to self-seed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water during dry spells until established, then reduce watering. Avoid overfeeding. Deadhead to prolong flowering or leave seed heads to encourage self-seeding. Suitable for wildflower gardens, borders, and wildlife-friendly planting. Cut back in autumn or leave stems for winter interest.
