Edible Cornflower  Seed - Irish Plants Direct

Cornflowers also known as Bachelor's Buttons, produce stunning daisy like flowers in shades of blue.

These charming annuals are not only a favourite among pollinators like bees and butterflies but also offer edible petals with a mildly sweet, clove like flavour perfect for decorating salads, desserts, and drinks.

Hardy and easy to grow, these traditional wildflowers thrive in borders, cottage gardens, and wildflower meadows, adding a touch of natural beauty. Their long stems make them ideal for fresh or dried flower arrangements.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds directly outdoors in early spring or autumn in well prepared soil. Scatter seeds thinly, cover lightly with soil, and water gently. Thin seedlings to 15-30 cm apart when they develop their first true leaves.

For earlier blooms, sow indoors in seed trays and transplant outdoors after the last frost. Cornflowers tolerate poor soil and dry conditions, making them a low-maintenance choice for any garden.

A beautiful and versatile edible flower, cornflowers bring colour and culinary flair to your garden and plate.
