Sowing Instructions

Sow thinly indoors from February to April in trays or individual cells, covering seeds lightly with 3–5 mm of fine compost or vermiculite. Keep at 18–22°C and evenly moist until germination (typically 7–21 days). Pot on when seedlings are large enough to handle, harden off and plant outdoors after the last frost, spacing 25–40 cm apart.

Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering; plants will often form tubers and can be lifted and stored in frost prone areas if required.

Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil; give support where stems become tall. Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the season for best flowering and larger blooms. Remove spent flowers for extended display and cut for vases when heads are fully coloured but still firm.
