A versatile medium hot chilli, Capsicum annuum ‘Fresno Red’ produces glossy conical fruits that ripen from green to bright vibrant red.

 

Often compared to jalapeños but with a fruitier flavour and slightly higher heat, Fresno Red is ideal for salsas, sauces, stir fries and fresh slicing.

 

Plants are compact yet productive, forming upright bushes that crop heavily throughout late summer. The chillies develop a crisp texture and a clean bright heat that intensifies as they fully ripen. It performs well in containers, greenhouses and warm sheltered patios, making it a reliable choice for both beginners and experienced growers.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with a fine layer of vermiculite or compost. Maintain a temperature of 20 to 28°C in a propagator or warm bright location. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Grow on in warm conditions and plant out after the last frost.

 

Grow and Maintenance

Water regularly and feed every two weeks with a high potash fertiliser once flowering begins. Provide warmth and shelter for best fruiting. Support plants if heavily laden with fruit. Harvest regularly to encourage continuous production.
