Chilli Pepper Gorria ORGANIC Seed

Chilli Pepper ‘Gorria’ (Capsicum annuum) is a traditional Basque variety famed for its rich, smoky-sweet flavour and medium heat, making it the key ingredient in the renowned Espelette pepper spice.

 

This vigorous and productive plant produces tapered, deep red chillies that can be used fresh, dried, or ground into a fine, aromatic powder.

 

With its compact, bushy growth and striking fruits, ‘Gorria’ is ideal for kitchen gardens, greenhouses, and patio containers. The glossy chillies ripen from green to deep red, offering a versatile spice level perfect for enhancing sauces, meats, and stews.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds indoors from February - April for the best results. Fill seed trays or pots with fine compost, sow seeds thinly on the surface, and lightly cover with compost or vermiculite. Maintain a temperature of 20-25°C and keep soil moist but not waterlogged.

 

Once seedlings develop their first true leaves, transplant them into individual pots. Gradually harden off before planting outdoors in a sunny, sheltered position after the risk of frost has passed. Space plants 40-50 cm apart in well-drained, fertile soil or grow in large containers.

 

For greenhouse growing, plant directly into the border or large pots. Water regularly and feed with a high-potassium fertiliser once flowers appear. Support plants with stakes if needed.
