This popular winter cropping cabbage has dark green medium sized rounded heads with densely packed crinkly leaves with a good flavour and texture. 

 

A great frost resistant variety it can be harvested early as tender greens.

Cabbages require a fertile well drained soil in partial shade that has been well dug in autumn they do not like acidic soil so adding lime to the soil may be necessary. 

 

Sow outside from April onwards in a prepared seed bed sowing thinly in rows 23cm apart and 1.5cm deep keep the soil moist. When the plants have around 5 leaves transplant to their final position leaving 60cm between plants and 50cm between rows firm in and water well.

 

Sow indoors in a tray sowing thinly and covering with a fine layer of compost from late March on a warm window sill or warm greenhouse.

 

When the seedlings emerge grow on until the plants are large enough to handle then transplant into tray 5cm apart grow on. Gradually accustom the plants to outside then plant out into their final growing position 60cm between each plant and 45cm between rows.

 

Keep well watered during dry spells.
