Beetroot Egyptian ORGANIC Seeds

A fast maturing organic beetroot variety producing smooth flat globe shaped roots with rich crimson flesh and a sweet earthy flavour. Known botanically as Beta vulgaris Egyptian this early type is valued for its quick growth uniform roots and excellent taste. The roots are tender even when large and the young leaves can also be harvested as a nutritious leafy green.

 

 

Unlike later maturing varieties Egyptian is one of the earliest beetroots to crop making it ideal for successional sowing and extended harvests. Its reliable performance and adaptability make it a favourite for both home gardeners and allotments.

 

Seed Qty Approx 1.5 grams

 

Sow March to July directly outdoors in drills. Germination 7 to 14 days at 10–25°C. Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun. Height Approx 30 cm foliage; roots develop below ground. Harvesting June to October; lift roots when young and tender or allow to mature for larger beets.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Prepare a fine seed bed in full sun. Sow seeds thinly in drills 2 cm deep and 30 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 10 cm spacing once established. Water well after sowing and keep soil moist during dry spells. For a continuous supply sow every three weeks until mid summer.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in fertile well drained soil enriched with organic matter. Keep soil moist to prevent roots from becoming woody. Hoe between rows to control weeds and avoid disturbing the roots. Harvest regularly to encourage further growth. Both roots and young leaves are edible.
