Aster Alpine Mix Seed

A compact and early flowering perennial grown for its bright daisy like blooms and neat clumping habit.

 

Alpine Aster forms low tidy plants topped with cheerful single flowers in shades of violet blue pink or white each with a sunny yellow centre that attracts bees and early pollinators.

 

The colourful blooms appear in late spring bringing fresh lively colour to rockeries walls gravel gardens and the front of borders while the dense foliage forms a neat year round mound.

 

This hardy perennial thrives in full sun and well drained soil showing excellent tolerance to cold exposed and dry conditions once established.

Sow: February to April indoors or direct outdoors from April

Germination: 14 to 30 days at cool to mild temperatures

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds thinly in trays of moist well drained compost Lightly cover with fine soil and keep in a cool bright place as alpine species prefer lower temperatures for germination Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle spacing 20 to 30 cm apart Harden off indoor seedlings and plant out after the last frost

Alternatively sow directly into prepared soil in spring or early autumn

Water regularly during establishment then sparingly once plants are growing strongly Alpine Aster thrives in sunny well drained positions Remove spent blooms to encourage further flowering and trim lightly after the main flush to maintain shape Plants are hardy and ideal for low maintenance gardens
