Aquilegia Yellow Queen RHS Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Aquilegia 'Yellow Queen' is a beautiful perennial that adds a touch of elegance and vibrancy to any garden with its striking pale yellow flowers and graceful, fern-like foliage. Commonly known as Columbine, Aquilegia comes from the Latin word aquila, meaning "eagle," referencing the shape of its flowers, which resemble an eagle’s talons. 'Yellow Queen' stands out with its soft yellow blooms, making it a perfect addition to borders, cottage gardens, or as part of a wildflower meadow.

This easy-to-grow plant reaches a height of 60 - 75 cm and thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun to partial shade. Its distinctive blooms attract pollinators, including bees and butterflies, enhancing biodiversity in your garden.

Awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit (AGM) for its excellent garden performance, Aquilegia Yellow Queen is part of the RHS Seed Scheme, ensuring high-quality seeds that are ideal for gardeners seeking reliable and rewarding results.

Indoors: Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost from February to April. Lightly cover with a fine layer of compost and keep at a temperature of 18-20°C. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle and harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost.

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared, weed-free soil from April to May. Lightly cover the seeds with soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to the recommended spacing for healthy growth.

With its graceful flowers and subtle yellow hues, Aquilegia Yellow Queen is perfect for adding elegance to garden beds, borders, or as part of a mixed perennial garden. Its ease of care and ability to attract pollinators makes it a favourite in wildlife-friendly gardens.
