Aquilegia Double Columbine Mix Seed

A graceful and long lived perennial with fully double spur less blooms in rich shades of blue purple pink red white and yellow.

 

Aquilegia Double Mix forms upright clumps of ferny green foliage and tall flowering stems that sway gently in early summer breezes. The intricate blooms resemble miniature rosettes and are highly attractive to bees butterflies and hummingbirds.

 

This hardy perennial thrives in partial shade and moist well drained soil and is ideal for cottage gardens wildlife borders and naturalistic planting. It self seeds freely and naturalises well in informal settings adding charm and seasonal structure.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds on the surface of moist well drained compost and press lightly. Do not cover as light aids germination. Maintain warmth at 15 to 20°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination may take 3 to 4 weeks. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out in spring or autumn spacing 30 to 45 cm apart.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells and mulch in spring to retain moisture. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering or allow to self seed. Cut back after flowering to maintain shape. Suitable for borders woodland edges and wildlife gardens.
