Anise Herb Seed - Irish Plants Direct

Anise is a fragrant, aromatic herb prized for its sweet, liquorice like flavour.

A member of the parsley family, this annual herb produces delicate feathery foliage, clusters of tiny white flowers, and small, flavourful seeds that are widely used in baking, herbal teas, and culinary dishes. The seeds are known for their digestive benefits and are commonly used in herbal remedies.

With its attractive lacy foliage and pollinator friendly blooms, anise is not only a useful herb but also a beautiful addition to herb gardens, borders, and containers.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds directly outdoors from March to May in a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained soil. Scatter seeds thinly and cover lightly with a fine layer of soil. Keep the soil moist until germination occurs.

Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to 20 cm apart to allow room for growth. Anise prefers warm, sunny conditions and does not tolerate frost, so ensure plants are placed in a protected area.

Harvest seeds when they turn brown and dry, usually in late summer to early autumn. Cut the seed heads and dry them in a warm, airy place before storing.

With its culinary, medicinal, and ornamental appeal, Anise Seeds are a must-have for any herb garden, offering both flavour and beauty in abundance.
