Angelica Herb Seed - Irish Plants Direct

Angelica is a striking herbaceous biennial (sometimes short lived perennial) that has been cultivated for centuries for its culinary, medicinal, and ornamental qualities.

In it's first year, it forms a rosette of large divided leaves. In the second year, it sends up tall hollow stems topped with huge domed umbels of greenish white flowers, which are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators.

The plant can reach 1.5 to 2 m in height, making it a dramatic feature in herb gardens, borders, or wild corners.

After flowering and setting seed, the plant usually dies, but it readily self seeds if allowed.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds as soon as possible after purchase, as viability declines quickly. Sow thinly on the surface of moist compost and cover lightly. Keep cool and shaded until germination. Transplant seedlings into individual pots and grow on before planting out into their final position.

Grow and Maintenance

Keep soil consistently moist, especially in dry spells. Mulch to conserve moisture. Remove flower heads if you wish to prolong the plant’s life beyond two years. Otherwise, allow to flower and self?seed for naturalised colonies. Protect young plants from slugs and snails.
