Acer Atropurpureum Red Japanese Maple Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This popular small deciduous tree provides stunning autumn colour.

Also known as Japanese maple this slow growing specimen tree is grown for its stunning foliage.

The delicate looking deeply lobed purple leaves turn scarlet red during autumn.

Grow in a sunny sheltered spot or dappled shade for exquisite displays.

Germination time 4 - 8 weeks

Well drained acidic - neutral soil

Height 6 - 10 metres

Plant in sun

Pop the seed in the fridge for 1 weeks then soak the seed in warm water 24 hours before sowing.

Sow the seed year round into pots if moist compost 1cm deep and place on a sunny window sill or in a propagator the temperature needs to be between 20°

Cover the pot with clear polythene to retain moisture.

Remove regularly so mould doesn't form.

When the plants are large enough to handle transplant into individual pots to grow on.
