Watermelon Pata Negra F1 Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

An early variety that produces rounded fruits with dark green almost black rind and a sweet and crispy bright red flesh.

Each fruit weighs between 7 - 8kg.

Companion Plants Corn, peas, beets, radish, salad crops, leeks onions and nasturtiums

Cut the fruit with a knife when they are large enough

Simply eat fresh on their own or add to fruit salads

The soil needs to be warm in the tunnel or greenhouse so do not plant out until the soil has warmed up. Apply a liquid fertaliser every two weeks after the first leaves have developed.

Water melons need to be kept well watered.

Water at the base and not from overhead.

Sow indoors between April - May sowing 2 seeds in 7cm pots on their sides about 2.5cm deep place onto a window sill or propagator. The temperature needs to be over 20° to germinate.

Pot on the strongest plants when the roots are visible at the bottom of the pots into 9cm pots and grow on.

Keeping the plants at a warm temperature warm.

Plant into grow bags or the ground when temperatures allow.

No pruning required.
