Sowing instructions

Sow thinly onto moist compost and press the seed down gently. Cover lightly with fine compost and keep evenly moist. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into trays or containers, ensuring constant moisture. Watercress can also be sown directly outdoors in damp soil or shallow water. Harvest young shoots regularly to maintain productivity.

 

Grow and maintenance

Plant in full sun or partial shade in consistently moist soil or shallow water. Watercress requires constant moisture to thrive. Cut back regularly to encourage new growth. Plants may overwinter in mild regions but benefit from protection in colder areas. Avoid allowing plants to dry out, as this reduces flavour and vigour.
