Tomatillo Purple ORGANIC Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

 

This bushy fruit has large upto 3.5cm in size green tomato like fruits that mature to purple in a papery husk. 

 

The taste has both a sweet and sour citrus flavour and can be eaten raw or use in salsa, chutneys and sauces.

Tomatillo can be grown in pots, containers or in the border of a greenhouse or tunnel. Prepare the soil by digging in compost or well rotted manure adding a granular fertiliser 2 weeks before planting.

 

Sow between March - April planting into pots or a seed tray place on a warm windowsill or in a heated propagator the temperature for germination needs to be between 21 - 27 degrees.

 

Make sure the seedlings have plenty of light and when they get their first true leaves transplant to a larger pot to grow on.

 

Transplant out when the plants are around 15cm tall and all chance of frost has passed.  

 

Water well before transplanting tying in the main stem to a cane or trellis for support.

 

Plant 90cm between plants or into large pots. 

 

It's important to water regularly and feed with tomato feed fortnightly when the flowers appear.
