  • Description

A compact sweet pea blend with beautifully scented blooms perfect for pots, baskets and small garden spaces.

Sweet Pea Patio Mix is a charming compact variety that produces beautifully scented blooms on naturally bushy plants. Unlike traditional climbing sweet peas, this mix stays short and tidy, making it perfect for patio pots, window boxes, hanging baskets and small garden spaces. The flowers appear in a lovely blend of soft pastels and brighter tones, creating a cheerful and fragrant summer display.

This reliable variety from the Mr Fothergill’s Seed Range is bred for strong branching and free flowering. The plants form neat rounded mounds that carry a generous number of blooms throughout the season. Each flower has the classic sweet pea fragrance that makes the plants so beloved, adding a gentle scent to outdoor seating areas and sunny patios.

It's ideal for gardeners who love sweet peas but do not have the space for tall supports or trellises. The compact habit means the plants remain manageable and attractive without climbing, while still offering the colour and perfume associated with traditional varieties. The blooms can be cut for small posies, encouraging even more flowers to form.

Thriving in full sun and well drained soil, this mix is easy to grow and performs reliably in containers and raised beds. Its combination of fragrance, colour and compact growth makes it a delightful addition to any summer garden.

Sowing instructions
Sow seeds in small pots or trays of moist free draining compost and cover lightly with soil. Maintain gentle warmth and keep the compost evenly moist until seedlings appear. Transplant young plants into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off gradually and plant out after the last frost. For direct sowing, place seeds in prepared soil once the weather has warmed.

Grow and maintenance
Water regularly during dry spells and feed every two weeks to support continuous flowering. Remove spent blooms to encourage fresh flowers and prevent seed formation. Provide a sunny sheltered position for the best fragrance and colour. Plants remain compact and do not require support.
