Sweet Pea Bijou Mixed Seed - Irish Plants Direct

Sweet Pea ‘Bijou’ (Lathyrus odoratus) is a charming dwarf variety that offers an abundance of beautifully scented blooms in a delightful mix of pastel shades, including pink, lavender, white, and blue.

Unlike traditional climbing sweet peas, ‘Bijou’ has a compact, bushy habit, making it ideal for small gardens, patio containers, hanging baskets, or as an edging plant in flower beds.

Its stunning blossoms not only bring vibrant colour but also fill the air with a delightful fragrance, attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.

This easy to grow variety reaches a manageable height of around 30–45 cm, eliminating the need for supports while still producing an abundance of flowers.

The lush green foliage provides a beautiful contrast to the bright, ruffled petals, making ‘Bijou’ a standout feature in any garden. As a cut flower, it is perfect for fresh arrangements, bringing a touch of classic cottage garden charm indoors.

Blooming from early summer to autumn, ‘Bijou’ sweet peas thrive in sunny spots with well-drained soil, offering long lasting beauty and fragrance throughout the season.

Direct sow outdoors from March to May or in autumn (September–October) for stronger, earlier flowers the following year. Sow seeds 1 cm deep in well-prepared soil, spacing them 10–15 cm apart. Keep the soil moist during germination and throughout the growing season.

Sweet Pea ‘Bijou’ is the perfect choice for gardeners who love the beauty and fragrance of sweet peas but prefer a low growing, easy care variety. With its stunning colour mix and delightful scent, it will bring charm and elegance to any garden or patio space.
