Helianthus annuus commonly known as sunflower, is a magnificent and towering annual celebrated for its large, radiant blooms and impressive height.

 

The Latin name Helianthus comes from the Greek words helios (sun) and anthos (flower), symbolising its sun-following habit.

Titan is an extraordinary variety renowned for its giant golden-yellow flowers, which can reach up to 60 cm in diameter, and its ability to grow to towering heights, making it a true show stopper in any garden.

Avoid Planting With: Potatoes, Pole Beans

 

Water regularly, especially during dry spells, and support the tall stems with stakes if necessary. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming or allow seeds to mature for birds and wildlife.

 

Sowing Instructions

Indoors:

 

Sow seeds in individual pots of moist compost from March to April. Keep at 18–21°C. Once seedlings are large enough to handle and all risk of frost has passed, harden off and plant out in a sunny position, spacing plants 45–60 cm apart.

 

Outdoors:

 

Sow directly into well-prepared soil from April to May. Plant seeds 2 cm deep and space 45 cm apart. Keep soil moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to the strongest plants for best results.
