Strawberry Alpine White Soul Seeds

A delightful perennial alpine strawberry producing unusual creamy white fruits with a sweet aromatic flavour.

 

Unlike modern cultivated strawberries this variety forms neat clumps without sending out runners, making it easy to manage in borders, pots, and containers.

 

The berries are small but intensely flavoured, often described as having tropical notes of guava and pineapple.

Germination 14 to 28 days in cool steady conditions. A brief cold treatment improves germination

Soil and Position Moist but well drained soil, neutral to slightly acidic. Prefers full sun or partial shade

Height Approx 15 to 20 cm with a compact clumping habit

Flowering and Fruiting June to September. Pick fruits regularly to encourage further cropping

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Chill seeds in the refrigerator for 2 to 4 weeks before sowing to improve germination. Sow thinly onto moist compost and press gently into the surface. Do not cover as light aids germination. Keep evenly moist. When seedlings are large enough to handle transplant into trays spacing plants 5 cm apart. Harden off and plant out after the last frost.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Plant in fertile free draining soil in sun or light shade. Water regularly during dry spells. Mulch around plants to conserve moisture and keep fruits clean. Remove older leaves in spring to encourage fresh growth. Plants are perennial and will crop for several years if well cared for.
