Squash Honey Bear F1 Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

A compact, bushy acorn squash bred to produce small, single-serving fruits with sweet, dense orange flesh and a fine texture that roasts or bakes beautifully in their skins.

Plants set multiple 10–12 cm mini acorn fruits on sturdy vines though the overall habit remains tidy and space-efficient, making Honey Bear F1 ideal for patios, containers and small plots.

The variety is valued for its reliable productivity, attractive dark green skins that mature to a warmer tone, and its suitability for home cooks who prefer convenient portion-sized squashes. Honey Bear F1 combines good storage potential with a rich, starchy flavour suited to soups, roasting and simple buttered halves.

Sowing instructions

Sow 2 seeds on their side into 9 cm pots about 1.5 cm deep in March–May for strongest results, cover lightly with compost and keep on a warm windowsill or in a propagator; remove the weaker seedling and grow on. Harden off and transplant outside after the risk of frost has passed, spacing plants to allow good airflow and development.

Grow and maintenance

Grow in full sun in well drained fertile soil; feed moderately and water during dry periods to support steady fruiting. The compact bush habit reduces the need for extensive training or long trellises. Remove excess foliage to improve ventilation if necessary and harvest fruits by cutting from the vine leaving a short stem to improve storage life.

Disease and pest resistance

Honey Bear F1 shows strong resistance to powdery mildew compared with older open-pollinated types, improving reliability in humid seasons and reducing the need for chemical control.

Uses and benefits

Perfect as individual roast portions, stuffed or pureed for soups, or simply baked with butter and seasoning. Compact plants suit small gardens and containers while the attractive miniature acorn shape makes Honey Bear F1 a practical and decorative autumn crop for growers seeking flavourful, easy-to-harvest winter squash.
