Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds thinly in trays of moist, well-drained compost. Lightly cover with fine soil and maintain temperatures at 18 to 22°C. Germination usually occurs within 2 to 3 weeks. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, spacing 40 to 50 cm apart. Harden off indoor seedlings and plant out after the last frost.

 

Grow and Maintenance

Water regularly during dry spells until plants are established. Once mature, Salvia verticillata requires little care and thrives in sunny, well-drained positions. Deadhead spent flower spikes to prolong blooming and cut back stems in autumn to maintain shape.
