Ragged Robin Seeds

A charming native perennial with delicate, deeply-lobed pink flowers that flutter like ribbons in the breeze. Ragged Robin thrives in damp meadows, pond edges and wildlife gardens, flowering from May to July.

 

Its frilly blooms are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and moths, including the Foxglove Pug and Marsh Fritillary.

 

Once common in wet grasslands, it’s now valued for rewilding and conservation planting. Hardy and low-maintenance, it naturalises well and adds graceful movement and ecological value to informal schemes.

Sowing instructions

 

Sow thinly on the surface of moist compost—do not cover, as light aids germination. Keep in a cool, bright place and maintain moisture. For outdoor sowing, scatter in prepared soil and rake in lightly. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, spacing 30 cm apart.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist soil. Water during dry spells and allow plants to self-seed naturally. Cut back spent flower stems to encourage basal growth. Hardy and reliable once established.
