Pumpkin Pink Banana Jumbo Seed.

Pink Banana Jumbo is a heritage winter squash variety known for its extraordinary size and distinctive shape.

 

The fruits are elongated and cylindrical, often 60 to 90 cm long, with smooth pinkish skin and dense orange flesh. With good soil and care, individual squashes can weigh 15 to 30 kg, and exceptional specimens may exceed 45 kg.

 

The plants are vigorous and sprawling, with vines that can reach 3 to 4 metres. Despite their size, the fruits have a fine grained texture and sweet flavour, making them excellent for both savoury and sweet dishes. They also store well in a cool, frost free place, often lasting several months.

Sow Indoors April to May, or outdoors late May to June after frost

Germination 7 to 14 days at 18 to 22°C

Soil and Position Rich fertile soil in full sun. Requires ample space for sprawling vines

Height/Spread Vines 300 to 400 cm trailing habit

Harvest September to October. Fruits can reach 15 to 30 kg, occasionally 45 to 60 kg

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds on edge 2 to 3 cm deep in pots of moist compost. Harden off and transplant once all risk of frost has passed. Alternatively sow directly outdoors in warm soil. Space plants at least 1.5 to 2 metres apart to allow for vigorous growth.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Prepare soil with plenty of well rotted manure or compost before planting. Water generously and consistently, especially during fruit swelling. Feed weekly with a high potassium fertiliser once fruits begin to set. For very large fruits, restrict each plant to one or two squashes and remove others early. Place straw or boards beneath developing fruits to prevent rotting.
