Pumpkin Atlantic Giant Seed

Atlantic Giant is the legendary pumpkin variety grown by competitive gardeners worldwide in pursuit of record breaking fruits.

 

With the right conditions, individual pumpkins can weigh several hundred kilograms, and the current world record exceeds 1,600 lb (over 725 kg). Even without record?breaking ambitions, this variety produces impressively large pumpkins that are both decorative and edible.

 

The fruits are typically round to slightly flattened, with smooth orange skin and thick flesh. While their sheer size makes them ideal for shows, displays, and carving, the flesh is also suitable for cooking, particularly in soups, stews, and pies.

Sow Indoors April to May, or outdoors late May to June after frost

Germination 7 to 14 days at 18 to 22°C

Soil and Position Rich fertile soil in full sun. Requires ample space and regular feeding

Height/Spread Vines 3 to 5 metres or more, sprawling habit

Harvest September to October. Fruits can exceed 300 kg with expert care

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds on edge 2 to 3 cm deep in pots of moist compost. Harden off and transplant once all risk of frost has passed. Alternatively sow directly outdoors in warm soil. Space plants at least 2 to 3 metres apart to allow for vigorous growth.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Prepare soil with plenty of well?rotted manure or compost before planting. Water generously and consistently, especially during fruit swelling. Feed weekly with a high potassium fertiliser once fruits begin to set. For giant pumpkins, restrict each plant to one fruit and remove others early. Place a board or straw beneath developing fruits to prevent rotting.
