Poppy Iceland Mix Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

The Papaver nudicaule also known as the Iceland Poppy, is a hardy perennial beloved for its delicate yet vibrant flowers.

The Iceland Poppy Mix features a captivating range of colours, from soft pastels to bold reds, oranges, and yellows, making it a stunning choice for adding a burst of colour to your garden. The Latin name Papaver nudicaule comes from "papaver," meaning "poppy" in Latin, and "nudicaule," meaning "bare stem," referring to its stemless blooms.

This charming flower is perfect for borders, rock gardens, and even cutting gardens, as it provides long-lasting, colourful displays throughout the growing season.

Growing to a height of 30-45 cm, Iceland Poppies prefer full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. Their elegant, papery flowers bloom from late spring to early summer, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

The Poppy Iceland Mix thrives in cooler climates, offering a beautiful and low-maintenance option for gardeners seeking easy-to-grow yet striking plants.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors: Sow seeds from March to May in seed trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost. Lightly press the seeds into the compost but do not cover them, as they need light to germinate. Keep at 18-20°C for optimal germination. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the garden after the last frost.

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared soil in a sunny, sheltered spot from April to June. Lightly press seeds into the soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to 30-45 cm apart once established.

The Iceland Poppy Mix is perfect for those who want an eye-catching yet easy-care flower that brings charm and colour to any garden. It’s an ideal addition to rock gardens, borders, or wildflower meadows.
