This popular winter vegetable is an old variety with long tapered roots with a creamy white skin and an excellent sweet flavour they can be left in the ground over winter.

Parsnips need a deep fertile soil that was manured for a previous crop they are not fussy about soil type but grow best on a light soil.

They are easy to grow and require very little attention however germination is slow so patience is required.

Sow bet February - May planting 3 seeds 1.2cm deep every 15cm in rows 25cm apart. When the seedlings emerge thin to leave one plant per station.

Water regularly during dry spells.
