Keep plants well-watered, especially during dry periods, to prevent bolting. Harvest young leaves for salads or allow plants to mature for larger, more robust stems and leaves. Protect from flea beetles and slugs with fine mesh or organic deterrents.

 

Outdoors:

Sow directly into prepared soil from May to August placing seeds 1 cm deep in drills 20 cm apart. Keep soil moist and thin seedlings as needed to avoid overcrowding. For a continuous harvest, sow at regular intervals.
