Onion Pickling De Barletta Seeds- Irish Plants Direct

These fast growing small pearly white onions have a sweet mild flavour that can be harvested from mid summer.

Use as a salad onion or they are an excellent variety for pickling.

Seed Qty 4gram

Sow March - May

Germination 14 - 21 days

Loam or sandy soil that's alkaline or neutral

Harvest July - August

Companion Plants Carrots, beetroot, lettuce, leeks and brassicas

Do not plant with beans, peas and asparagus

Pull the onions when they are large enough

A good source of vitamin C and iron

Use in salads, pickling or Oriental dishes

A handy tip grow in pots and containers especially if space is limited

Onions need a well drained sunny area that has been well dug in autumn adding plenty of compost or well rotted manure. Thay do not grow well in acidic soil so adding lime maybe necessary.

Sow every two weeks to have a continuous supply of onions. They can also be grown in window boxes or containers on the patio.

Keep well watered in dry spells.

Sow thinly outside 1.5cm deep in drills in March under a cloche then between April - May in open ground.
