Nodding Catchfly Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Silene pendula, commonly known as Pink Campion or Nodding Catchfly, is a charming low growing annual that produces masses of delicate, pendulous pink blooms from late spring to early autumn.

With its trailing habit and soft, green foliage, it makes a stunning choice for borders, rock gardens, and hanging baskets, where its cascading flowers can spill beautifully over edges.

This easy to grow species thrives in full sun to partial shade and is tolerant of various soil types, provided they are well-draining. Its vibrant blossoms attract bees and butterflies, making it a beneficial addition to pollinator-friendly gardens.

Sowing Instructions

For early flowering, sow seeds indoors from late winter to early spring in seed trays filled with fine compost. Lightly cover with soil and keep at 15–20°C, ensuring moisture is maintained. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into individual pots before hardening off and planting outdoors after the last frost.

For direct sowing, scatter seeds in a well-prepared bed from mid-spring onwards, gently pressing them into the soil. Water lightly and thin out seedlings as necessary.

Silene pendula’s profuse blooms and elegant trailing habit make it a fantastic addition to garden displays, offering long-lasting colour and effortless charm.
