Sow March to May directly where they are to flower.

Germination 7–14 days in warm, steady conditions.

Soil and Position Thrives in loam, chalk, or sandy soils; tolerant of acidic, alkaline, or neutral conditions. Prefers full sun in a free?draining site.

Height Up to 90 cm; tall, airy habit ideal for the middle of borders.

Flowering July to October with a long season of rich, dark blooms; deadheading prolongs flowering, or allow pods to form for drying.

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow thinly 5 mm deep into finely raked, moist soil in spring. Keep evenly moist until seedlings establish. Thin to 15 cm apart for best effect. For continuous displays, succession sow every 2–3 weeks through spring.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Grow in full sun in free?draining soil. Water regularly while establishing, then moderately thereafter. Plants often self?seed if pods are left to ripen, returning naturally in following seasons. Support taller stems in exposed sites if needed.
