Morning Glory Party Dress Seeds

A fast growing half hardy annual climber with large trumpet shaped flowers in bright purple pink tones marked with vivid red patterns at the throat.

 

A vigorous and early flowering climber, ideal for covering trellis, arches, fences and tall containers.

Sowing and germination

Sow March to May indoors on a warm windowsill or in a propagator for earlier plants; direct sow outdoors April to May after all risk of frost has passed. Germination 5 to 14 days at 18 to 22°C; scarify or nick the hard seed coat or soak overnight to speed up and improve germination.

Soil and position

Tolerant of loam, chalk or sandy soils and suited to acidic, alkaline or neutral conditions; prefers a sunny, warm position with good drainage.

Size and flowering

Height Up to 300 cm when trained; spread around 40 cm or more depending on support and pruning. Flowering June to September with large morning-open blooms; deadhead to prolong flowering and reduce excessive self sowing.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Soak or nick seeds overnight then sow individually in modular compost March to May and keep at 18 to 22°C; transplant when sturdy and harden off before planting out with strong supports in place. For direct sowing wait until soil is warm and all risk of frost has passed.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in full sun and water regularly while establishing; avoid waterlogged conditions. Train young shoots onto supports and pinch out growing tips to encourage bushier side growth for a denser display. Mulch to conserve moisture in containers and beds and collect ripe seed heads if you wish to save seed or prevent unwanted volunteers.
