Sow January to March under cover in a propagator or on a warm windowsill.

Germination 7 to 21 days in warm, steady conditions.

Soil and Position Prefers loam, chalk, or sandy soils; tolerant of acidic, alkaline, or neutral conditions. Best in full sun.

Height Approx 20 cm; compact, spreading habit.

Flowering June to October; deadhead regularly to prolong flowering.

Good Companions Ideal with other sun loving bedding plants such as petunias, marigolds, and lobelia.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow from January to March onto the surface of moist, sieved compost. Lightly press seeds into the surface but do not cover, as light aids germination. Keep at a steady temperature until seedlings emerge. Transplant seedlings into 7.5 cm pots when large enough to handle, then harden off and plant out after the last frost, spacing 20–25 cm apart.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Grow in full sun in free draining soil. Water regularly while establishing, then moderately thereafter. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. Protect from frost or treat as an annual in colder regions.
