A charming compact selection of Lupinus nanus producing masses of sweetly scented pea shaped blooms in soft pastel shades of pink blue white and bicolours. Pixie Delight is a dwarf annual lupin ideal for smaller gardens containers and the front of borders, offering all the beauty of traditional lupins in a neat easy to manage form.

Plants form bushy low growing mounds that flower freely from early summer onwards. The delicate blooms attract bees butterflies and beneficial insects while the finely cut foliage adds texture and movement. This variety thrives in poorer soils and sunny positions making it perfect for coastal gardens cottage borders and informal plantings.

Pixie Delight is fast growing reliable and excellent for adding soft colour to summer displays with minimal care.

Sow February to April indoors or direct from April

Germination 14 to 21 days at 15 to 20°C

Soil and Position Free draining sandy or moderately fertile soil in full sun

Height and Spread 30 to 45 cm tall, 25 to 35 cm spread

Flowering June to August

 

Sowing Instructions

Soak seeds for a few hours before sowing to aid germination. Sow in pots or modules filled with moist well drained compost and lightly cover with soil. Maintain a temperature of 15 to 20°C. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after the last frost spacing 25 to 35 cm apart. For direct sowing place seeds 1 to 2 cm deep once the soil has warmed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

Water during prolonged dry spells but avoid overfeeding as lupins prefer leaner soils. Remove spent blooms to prolong flowering. Pixie Delight thrives in sunny exposed positions and is ideal for borders containers and wildlife friendly gardens.
