Lobelia Cascade Blue RHS Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Lobelia erinus 'Cascade Blue' is a trailing annual that dazzles with its masses of vibrant, sky-blue flowers. Known for its cascading habit, this variety is perfect for hanging baskets, containers, and window boxes, where its delicate, yet abundant blooms spill over the edges and create a stunning visual effect.

The genus Lobelia is named after the Flemish botanist Matthias de Lobel, with the species erinus referring to its small, finely textured foliage and flowers. Lobelia Cascade Blue is particularly valued for its vigorous growth, long flowering season, and its ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it a beautiful and beneficial addition to any garden.

Recognised by the RHS Seed Scheme, this variety is known for its reliable germination and excellent garden performance, offering gardeners a hardy and decorative plant that thrives in a variety of conditions.

This trailing annual is ideal for brightening up both sunny and semi-shaded spaces. It thrives in well-drained, moist soil and reaches a height of 20 - 30 cm, with a spread of up to 40 cm, making it the perfect choice for edging, hanging baskets, or as a filler in mixed containers.

Sowing Instructions
Indoors: Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost from January to March. Lightly press seeds into the surface without covering, as they require light to germinate. Maintain a temperature of 18-20°C. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle and harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost.

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared soil from April to May. Scatter seeds thinly on the soil surface and gently press them down. Keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to a spacing of 20 - 25 cm for healthy growth.

With its delicate blue flowers and cascading growth, Lobelia Cascade Blue is a perfect plant for brightening any garden display. Whether used in containers, baskets, or as part of a border, this RHS-endorsed variety provides vibrant colour and a graceful presence all season long.
