Lobelia Cambridge Blue Seeds

Delicate trailing lobelia with masses of soft, pale blue flowers over a compact, spreading habit; perfect for window boxes, hanging baskets and edging where a cool, refined splash of colour is wanted from late spring to autumn.

 

Compact habit and long flowering period make it ideal for mixed containers and bedding schemes.

Sow February to April for summer display; can sow in late summer for autumn containers

Germination 7 to 14 days at 18 to 20°C; seeds need light to germinate so do not cover deeply

Soil Moist, well-drained loam or free-draining multi-purpose compost; fertile but not overly rich

Height 10 to 20 cm; spread 20 to 30 cm depending on spacing and training

Good Companions Petunias; calibrachoa; bacopa; geraniums in containers; low-growing salvias

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Surface-sow thinly into trays or modules February–April and press seeds gently onto the compost surface without covering; keep at 18–20°C and maintain even moisture. Prick out when large enough to handle and plant into containers or positions 20–30 cm apart after all risk of frost; for hanging baskets space plants 8–12 cm apart. For outdoor bedding sow April in cold frame or under cover for earlier displays. Protect young plants from slugs and slugs and ensure good air circulation.

 

Grow and Maintenance

Provide regular watering and balanced liquid feed during the flowering season to support continuous bloom; avoid waterlogged conditions. Deadhead spent flowers and trim back leggy growth to encourage a fresh flush of blooms. In frosty areas treat as an annual; in mild sheltered sites plants may linger into winter. Refresh containers yearly for best display.
