Sowing & Growing

When to Sow March to September directly outdoors or in trays for transplanting

Germination 7 to 14 days at 10–20°C

Soil & Position Fertile well drained soil enriched with compost; prefers full sun or partial shade

Harvest 4 to 6 weeks from sowing; cut and come again for repeated harvests

 

Sowing Instructions

Prepare a fine seed bed in full sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly in drills 1?cm deep and 25cm apart. Thin seedlings to 15–20cm spacing once established. Water well after sowing and keep soil evenly moist during dry spells. Succession sowings every 2 to 3 weeks extend the harvest season.

 

Grow & Maintenance

Grow in fertile soil with regular watering during dry periods. Salad Bowl Red thrives in sunny sites and partial shade. Harvest leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth. Suitable for container growing as well as open ground.
