Leek Oarsman F1 RHS Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
 
This tasty winter vegetable is fast growing and early to mature it has snow white shanks with dark green leaves with a good flavour.
 
It has a good resistance to disease such as rust and is slow to bolt.

Leeks are a hungry crop that need well drained soil choose a sunny spot and dig the site in winter adding plenty of compost or well rotted manure. About a week before transplanting apply a general purpose fertiliser.
 
Sow between March - May in seed trays sowing the seed thinly 1.5cm deep and covering with a layer of compost keep at 15°.
 
When the leeks have grown to around 15cm cut back the foliage to 100cm.
Harden off the young plants and plant out at the end of May.
 
Make a hole 15cm deep with a dibber place the trimmed leek in the hole water the hole do not fill the hole with soil. Plant the young leeks 15cm apart and 30cm between rows.
 
As the leeks grow gently draw soil up around the plants to increase the length of the stem.
 
Water well in dry weather.
