Sowing Instructions

Sow indoors February to April surface sow or cover very lightly in trays of free draining seed compost and keep at 18 to 20°C. Maintain even moisture but avoid waterlogging.

Thin or prick out seedlings into small pots when large enough to handle and grow on in bright conditions. Harden off before planting out into a sunny sheltered position after the risk of severe frost has passed. For direct sowing choose March to May in a well prepared free draining bed and protect young plants from excess winter wet.

Grow in full sun with very good drainage and avoid high fertility which reduces essential oil production. Mulch sparingly with grit or sharp sand to improve drainage and prune lightly after flowering to maintain compact shape and encourage fresh growth. Allow plants to dry slightly between waterings and harvest flower spikes when showiest for drying or cutting.
