Hordeum Jubatum Ricky Grass Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Hordeum jubatum is commonly known as Foxtail Barley. It is a graceful ornamental grass prized for its feathery, shimmering seed heads that add texture and movement to garden displays.

The Latin name Hordeum refers to its relation to the barley family, while jubatum, meaning "maned" or "crested," reflects its distinctive, silky plumes. Ricky is a striking variety known for its soft, flowing foliage and elegant, pink-tinged flower heads that mature to a silvery hue, creating a stunning visual effect in borders, prairie-style plantings, and wildflower meadows.

This low-maintenance, tufted grass reaches a height of 40–60 cm and thrives in well-drained soil with full sun. Drought-tolerant once established, Hordeum Jubatum Ricky is ideal for adding a naturalistic touch to gardens and is highly effective in mass plantings or as an accent in mixed beds.

The delicate seed heads are also popular in dried flower arrangements.
