Description

Greater Burdock ORGANIC Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This tall biennial herb plant will grow upto 1.5 metres and can have many uses.

It has wavy thick green leaves that has a slight peppermint flavour with thistle like purple flowers on strong stems during summer.

Use raw or cooked the root, stalk and leaf are edible.

The root is used in the popular drink Dandylion and Burdock.

A medicinal herb that can be used as a blood purifier it has anti bacteria properties and can be used for skin problems.

An excellent plant for attracting a host of wildlife into the garden.

Sow January - March or October - December

Germination time 7 - 21 days

All soil types that is acidic, alkaline or neutral

Height 150cm

Plant in sun or partial shade

Flowers July - September

Ideal in beds, borders, wildflower, woodland

Cut down in Autumn

Soak the seed for 24 hours before sowing.

Sow between January - March into finely raked moist compost cover lightly and place on a sunny window sill.

When the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant into trays or individual pots to grow on.

Gradually accustom the plants to outside before planting out after all risk of frost has passed.

The seed can be sown thinly directly outside between 2 - 3cm deep during October- December leaving 40cm between rows.

When the seedlings emerge thin to about 40cm apart allowing the young plants to grow on.
