A tall native perennial producing large, saucer shaped blooms in shades of purple with darker veins.

Soil and Position Well-drained, fertile soil; prefers full sun or partial shade.

Height 90–120 cm with large purple flowers marked by darker veins.

Flowering June–September.

 

Sowing instructions

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist compost and press lightly. Cover very lightly with fine soil. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, spacing 30–40 cm apart. Alternatively sow directly outdoors in prepared beds.

 

Grow and maintenance

Grow in fertile, well-drained soil with regular watering. Great Mallow thrives in sunny or lightly shaded positions. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering. Allow some plants to self-seed for naturalised displays.
