Gourd Indian Mix Ornamental Seeds

Indian Mix is a striking ornamental gourd selection that offers a diverse assortment of shapes, colours, and textures.

 

Fruits may be round, pear shaped, winged, or elongated, with surfaces that are smooth, ridged, or covered in decorative warts. Colours range from deep green and orange to yellow, cream, and striped combinations, ensuring every harvest is unique and eye catching.

 

The plants are vigorous annual climbers or trailers, spreading 2 to 3 metres across the ground or scrambling up fences and trellises. They are easy to grow and highly productive, producing a large number of fruits that can be harvested in late summer and autumn. Once cured, the gourds keep their decorative qualities for months, making them ideal for seasonal displays.

Sow April to May indoors, or May to June outdoors after frost

Germination 7 to 14 days at 18 to 22°C

Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil in full sun. Requires space for trailing vines or support for climbing

Height/Spread Vines 200 to 300 cm trailing or climbing habit

Harvest September to October. Pick when skins are hard and fully coloured

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds 2 cm deep in pots of moist compost. Harden off and transplant once all risk of frost has passed. Alternatively sow directly outdoors in warm soil. Space plants 90 to 120 cm apart to allow for vigorous growth.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells and mulch to conserve moisture. Feed with a balanced fertiliser once vines begin to run. Harvest fruits before frost leaving a short stem attached. Cure in a warm dry place for 2 to 3 weeks before storing or using for decoration.
