Sowing Instructions

Sow indoors March to May or direct sow April in a well prepared seedbed. Surface sow or cover very lightly 0.5 cm in trays or modules of moist seed compost and keep at 18 to 21°C. Germination typically takes 7 to 14 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle and space 20 to 30 cm apart. Harden off before planting out into a sunny sheltered position.

Grow in full sun with sharply free draining soil and avoid high fertility which reduces flowering. Water moderately during establishment and reduce watering once established to encourage deeper roots. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering and cut back straggly growth in mid season to encourage fresh flushes. Suitable for coastal exposure and drought tolerant once established.
