Marconi A Grano Bianco is a classic Italian Romano type climbing bean, prized for its broad flat pods and exceptional eating quality.

 

The plants are vigorous climbers, reaching 2 to 2.5 metres, and require poles or trellis support. Pods are stringless, tender, and meaty in flavour, growing up to 28 cm long. Inside, the beans are white seeded, adding to their culinary versatility.

 

This medium late variety is highly productive and reliable, producing abundant harvests over a long season. The pods are best picked young for maximum tenderness, but they also hold well on the plant without becoming fibrous.

Sow April to June directly outdoors once soil has warmed

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds 3 cm deep, spacing 20 cm apart in rows 60 cm apart, or plant in groups of 3 around supports. Water well after sowing. Provide strong poles or netting for climbing. Successional sowings every 2–3 weeks extend the harvest season.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Keep soil evenly moist, especially during flowering and pod set. Mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Feed with a potassium rich fertiliser to encourage pod production. Regular picking ensures tender pods and prolongs cropping.
